The XPeng P7 is more than just an electric sedan—it represents a significant leap in China's EV industry. From XPeng's founding in 2014 to the P7's launch in 2019, the company took five years to develop and unveil the industry’s first Tesla Model 3 “killer”.
XPeng Motors was founded on August 15, 2014, with a vision to create intelligent electric vehicles that could rival its American rival. The company first introduced the G3 SUV in 2018, but it was the P7, launched in April 2019 at the Auto Shanghai show, that truly showcased XPeng’s high-tech aspirations.

Deliveries of the P7 began in June 29, 2020, with an initial price that ranged from 229,900 to 349,900 RMB. The sedan quickly gained popularity due to its 706 km range, 80.9 kWh battery, and advanced autonomous driving features.
The 2020 XPeng P7 was positioned as a direct competitor to Tesla’s Model 3, which at the time started at 271,550 RMB.

The P7 achieved its highest single year sales record in 2021, delivering 62,590 units. However, deliveries gradually declined by -5.6% YoY to 59,066 units in 2022, -23.2% YoY to 45,371 units in 2023, and most notably, -66.7% YoY to 15,089 units in 2024.
Four months into 2025, XPeng has only sold 751 P7 in China with only 130 units delivered in April.

The most important decline in P7 sales came on the back of the launch of the XPeng P7+ on October 10, 2010, coined as the “world’s first AI car”.

Deliveries of the new sedan sedan, starting at only 186,800 RMB, began on November 11, 2024. Coincidentally, the P7 sales were halved through that month and continued to slump through 2025.
