All-new extended-range XPeng X9 will become world's longest range 7-seater NEV

Xpeng (NYSE:XPEV) announced that it will debut the extended-range X9 MPV in October 2025 in China. The X9 will be the first in the company’s extended-range electric vehicle lineup and is positioned as the world’s longest-range new energy seven-seater.

The model combines a 450-kilometer (c. 280 miles) CLTC battery range with a comprehensive driving range of up to 1,600 kilometers (c. 1,000 miles) when both battery and fuel reserves are utilized.

The X9 EREV follows the January 2024 launch of the all-electric X9, which was Xpeng’s first MPV. Xpeng’s move into EREVs parallels strategies pursued by other Chinese automakers such as Li Auto (NASDAQ:LI), which has built its brand identity around range-extended models.

By introducing the X9 EREV, Xpeng seeks to broaden its product appeal beyond battery-only vehicles, addressing long-distance driving needs while retaining the benefits of an EV platform.

The X9 will also mark the beginning of a full EREV product cycle. According to company statements, extended-range versions of the G7 and G6 SUVs, as well as the P7+ sedan, are scheduled for release between 2026 and 2027.

Chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng said the company has invested more than 1,000 test vehicles into a validation program spanning 800 days, 20 countries, and 330 cities, covering over 20 million kilometers.

He noted that the X9 endured extreme testing conditions including sub-zero temperatures, high heat, and high-altitude environments, and he described the model as an effort to bring the warmth of home to greater distances.

The vehicle is built on XPeng’s full-domain 800-volt high-voltage platform and supports 5C ultra-fast charging rates. It incorporates the Kunpeng Super Range Extender system paired with lithium iron phosphate batteries from CALB-Tech.

The range extender itself is a 1.5-liter engine from Harbin Dongan Auto Engine with a maximum net output of 110 kW.

Regulatory filings list the X9 EREV at 5,316 mm in length, 1,988 mm in width, and 1,785 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,160 mm and a curb weight of 2,750 kg.

The vehicle delivers 450 kilometers (c. 280 miles) of pure-electric range, with total endurance extending to 1,600 kilometers (c. 1,000 miles).

The BEV version offers multiple trims including the Long Range Max with a 650-kilometer (c. 404 miles) CLTC range, the Ultra-Long Range Max with a 740-kilometer (c. 460 miles) CLTC range, the All-Wheel Drive High-Performance Max with a 702-kilometer (c. 436 miles) CLTC range, and the Starship Edition with a 702-kilometer (c. 436 miles) CLTC range.

The BEV variant accelerates with front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive options, powered by front motors rated at 235 kW and optional rear motors rated at 135 kW.

The interior design of the X9 focuses on technology and passenger comfort. Features include a 10.25-inch LCD instrument panel, a 17.3-inch floating central control screen, a 21.4-inch ceiling-mounted entertainment display, a 23-speaker audio system, zero-gravity seats, and a 10.8-liter refrigerator.

The exterior design achieves a drag coefficient of 0.227 Cd and is available in six colors: gray, purple, blue, silver, black, and white.

The all-electric X9, currently on sale, is priced between 359,800 yuan (c. $50,600) and 419,800 yuan (c. $59,000). Pricing for the EREV variant has not yet been announced.

Deliveries are expected to begin following its October launch, with booking terms to be confirmed closer to release.

With a combined range exceeding 1,600 kilometers (c. 1,000 miles) and integration of fast-charging technology, the model positions Xpeng to compete more directly with rivals in both the battery electric and extended-range markets.

Its launch will serve as a foundation for the company’s broader EREV rollout over the next two years.
