BMW Group Plant Debrecen in Hungary produced the 50,000th BMW iX3 on July 28, 2026, nine months after series production began in late October 2025. The milestone marks the fastest ramp-up of any new plant in BMW Group's production network to date.

The pace outran BMW's own timeline. A second production shift, introduced well ahead of schedule in February 2026, helped the plant keep up with demand for the electric SUV, and the company said it is now on track to soon reach 100,000 incoming orders for the model.

Raymond Wittmann, the BMW AG (ETR: BMW) board member responsible for production, said the 50,000th iX3 "underscores the capabilities of our plant in Debrecen." He added that lessons learned there are being shared across the network to support the 40 new or updated models BMW plans to launch by the end of 2027 as the Neue Klasse architecture rolls out across its lineup.

The iX3 is the first series-production model built on Neue Klasse, BMW's new vehicle architecture, and Debrecen is an entirely new factory constructed specifically to build it. Hans-Peter Kemser, president and CEO of BMW Group Plant Debrecen, credited the plant's workforce for the milestone and said its launch experience is now feeding directly into the ramp-up of future Neue Klasse models at other BMW Group sites worldwide.

BMW is leaning on close collaboration between plants to replicate Debrecen's pace elsewhere. Insights, digital data and quality analyses from the iX3 launch flow into a shared database across the production network, letting the company catch potential quality issues at one site before they recur at another.

Order momentum has tracked the production pace closely. BMW had already logged more than 50,000 orders for the iX3 by mid-March 2026, just six months after the order books opened in September 2025, and the company says it is now closing in on 100,000.

Debrecen builds the standard-wheelbase iX3 in two configurations. The dual-motor iX3 50 xDrive launched the model, and a rear-wheel-drive, single-motor iX3 40 joined the lineup afterward, priced from €63,400 (c. $72,300) in Germany and undercutting the 50 xDrive by €7,500 (c. $8,500). Deliveries of the dual-motor version begin in the United States this fall, while China and select other markets receive a long-wheelbase variant assembled locally rather than shipped from Hungary.

At full capacity, Debrecen can build up to 150,000 iX3 units a year, roughly three times the run rate needed to hit 50,000 units so far. BMW also plans to assemble the standard-wheelbase iX3 in Mexico, at its San Luis Potosí plant, starting in the second half of 2027, extending the model's production footprint to three continents.

Safety data has kept pace with the sales figures. The iX3 xDrive50, which weighs 2,285 kg (5,038 lbs), earned a five-star Euro NCAP rating in July 2026 under the assessor's stricter new testing protocol introduced this year, with Euro NCAP calling it possibly the safest BMW built to date.

The iX3 is not the only Neue Klasse model moving quickly. BMW has also brought forward the order-book opening for the i3 sedan, the architecture's second model, citing strong early interest ahead of deliveries beginning this fall from a Munich plant. An i3 Touring wagon and the coupe-styled iX4, both due in the coming months, are next in the pipeline.

With Debrecen already running two shifts and the order book approaching six figures, the next test is whether BMW can hold that ramp-up pace as Neue Klasse production spreads to Mexico and expands within China.
