BYD Delivered Over 500,000 Vehicles In December, A Record 4.27 Million In 2024

On January 1, BYD announced that it has delivered 514,809 new energy vehicles in December 2024, 509,440 of which were passenger vehicles and 5,722 were commercial vehicles.

Of the passenger vehicles sold in December, 301,706 were plug-in hybrids and 207,734 were fully electric.

Most noteworthy observation here is that on December of last year, BYD had sold 190,754 EVs and only 149,424 PHEVs, further evidencing the trend towards hybrid engines in China.

BYD also exported 57,154 new energy passenger vehicles to oversea markets.

On a cumulative basis, BYD as delivered a total of 4,272,145 new energy vehicles, passenger and commercial included, representing a 41.26% year-on-year growth from 3,024,417 delivered in 2023.

Total fully electric vehicle sales reached 1.76 million units for the year, a 12.1% YoY growth.

Meanwhile, plug-in hybrids jumped by 72.8% YoY from 1.44 million to 2.49 million units.

BYD MONTHLY WHOLESALE SALES (IN 000s)

Excluding the company’s sub-brands, Denza, Fangchengbao, and Yangwang, BYD delivered 479,797 vehicles in December, a -1.1% month-on-month decline.

BYD’s passenger car line-up feature two major series, the Dynasty for high-end vehicles and the Ocean series targeting younger buyers.

The Dynasty series delivered 256,281 units in December, for a total cumulative delivery of 2.1 million units in 2024, a 40.7% year-on-year growth.

Meanwhile, the Ocean series delivered 223,516 units for a total of 1.94 million units in 2024.

The best-selling BYD Ocean vehicle was the Song PLUS with 511,962 units this year.

Both higher-end sub-brands Denza and Fangchengbao have exceeded 10,000 units in monthly sales.

BYD ANNUAL WHOLESALE SALES (IN 000s)

BYD on a standalone basis (excluding sub-brands) has delivered 4.06 million new energy vehicles, a 41.0% year-on-year growth from the 2.88 million units delivered in 2023.

The Chinese NEV giant has installed a total of 23.495 GWh of energy storage batteries in December, for a total of 194.705 GWh in 2024.
