BYD (HKG:1211) exported 1.049 million passenger vehicles and pickup trucks in 2025, marking a 145% increase from the previous year and the company's first time exceeding one million units in overseas markets.

The export surge contributed to BYD's total global sales of 4.6 million vehicles in 2025, positioning the Shenzhen-based automaker as the first Chinese automotive group to enter the top five global automakers by sales volume. BYD surpassed General Motors, Ford, Honda, and Nissan in the rankings. Ford's 2025 global wholesale volume fell just below 4.4 million units, down nearly 2% year-over-year.

BYD's new energy vehicles are now sold across 119 countries and regions. The company secured the overall brand sales championship in Hong Kong and ranked first in new energy vehicle sales in Italy, Spain, and Hungary. In emerging markets including Thailand, Indonesia, and Brazil, BYD maintains leading positions with sales repeatedly setting new records in core markets such as Germany and the United Kingdom.

The company has maintained its position as the world's top-selling new energy vehicle manufacturer for four consecutive years. In 2025, BYD's battery electric vehicle sales surpassed Tesla for the first time, making BYD the global leader in pure electric vehicle sales.

BYD's domestic sales remained dominant throughout 2025. The company sold over 4.6 million vehicles in China, securing top positions in both automaker and brand sales rankings according to China Passenger Car Association data. In December 2025, BYD produced its 15 millionth new energy vehicle, becoming the first Chinese automaker to reach this manufacturing milestone.
The company's product lineup spans the Dynasty and Ocean series, with core models including Qin, Yuan, and Seal maintaining leading positions in their segments. Premium sub-brands Formula Leopard, Denza, and Yangwang reported significant year-over-year sales growth.

BYD's technology portfolio includes the Eye of God intelligent driver assistance system, Super e-Platform, fifth-generation DM hybrid technology, Yunnan intelligent body control system, and Blade Battery. As of December 2025, cumulative installed vehicles equipped with driver assistance systems exceeded 2.56 million units, ranking first among Chinese automakers. The Eye of God system generates an average of 160 million kilometers of data daily with a 94.13% activation rate.
Industry analysts expect BYD's overseas sales to continue expanding in 2026 as the company advances its global production base construction and proprietary roll-on/roll-off ship fleet. The trajectory from ninth place globally in 2023 to sixth in 2024 and fifth in 2025 reflects the company's consistent sales growth and expanding international footprint.
