BYD (HKG: 1211) opened pre-sales on March 29, 2026 for the second-generation Denza D9, a premium multi-purpose vehicle built on an 800V electrical architecture and capable of charging from 10% to 70% in five minutes using the company's new Blade Battery 2.0.
Pre-sale prices span 389,800 to 489,800 CNY (c. $56,400 to c. $70,800) across six variants — three PHEV and three BEV. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in April. Buyers who pre-order receive 18 months of complimentary flash charging (12 months standard, six months additional for early orders). The D9 replaces the 2025 model, which launched in December 2024 starting at 339,800 CNY (c. $49,100).

The Denza D9 has anchored BYD's premium sub-brand since its 2022 debut, holding close to 60% of China's high-end new energy vehicle MPV market. The model claimed the top spot in China's MPV segment for 2023 and 2024, and crossed the 300,000-unit global delivery mark in November 2025 — reached in under three years, roughly 50% faster than comparable vehicles in the segment.

The centrepiece upgrade is the second-generation Blade Battery, which switches from standard lithium iron phosphate to a lithium manganese iron phosphate (LMFP) chemistry paired with a silicon-carbon anode, operating at 3.8V with halved internal resistance.
BYD says energy density improves by 50% and cell lifespan by 30% over the outgoing pack. The platform voltage moves from 400V to 800V, enabling the claimed 10% to 70% charge in five minutes and 10% to 97% in nine minutes. In extreme cold, the battery completes a 20% to 97% cycle in 12 minutes at −30°C — just three minutes longer than at room temperature.

BEV variants use a single 340 kW front motor or a dual-motor AWD setup combining a 340 kW front with a 70 kW rear unit, totalling 410 kW (557 PS). CLTC-rated range rises from the outgoing model's 620 km to 750 km (466 miles) for the single-motor and 800 km (497 miles) for the AWD.
The PHEV lineup combines a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine producing 115 kW with a 200 kW front and 45 kW rear motor, with pure electric range jumping from roughly 190 km on the outgoing model to 400 km or more (249 miles) on the CLTC cycle. Combined range reaches 1,100 km (684 miles) for FWD trims and 1,020 km (634 miles) for AWD.

All variants are fitted with God's Eye 5.0, BYD's advanced driver-assistance platform, with roof-mounted LiDAR standard across the range. Capabilities include urban Navigate on Autopilot (NOA), all-scenario navigation, and intelligent dead-end parking.
Also standard is BYD's Cloud Ride-C air suspension with Predictive 2.0 road-preview, which reduces lateral body roll by 23% and adds an anti-motion-sickness mode. Rear-wheel steering of ±10° is reported as standard across all trims, shrinking the turning radius from 5.95 m on the current model to 4.6–4.8 m — comparable to a small city car.

The D9 measures 5,250 mm long on a 3,110 mm wheelbase. The three-row, seven-seat 2+2+3 interior gains a column shifter freeing up the centre console, NAPPA leather, real-wood trim, Devialet audio, active noise cancellation, and a boot expanded by roughly one-third. Second-row captain's chairs offer 10-point massage, heating, ventilation, and powered leg rests.

Denza brand sales reached 126,035 units in 2024, with the D9 accounting for the bulk of that volume. Rivals including Zeekr's 009 and XPeng's (NYSE: XPEV) X9 have posted steady gains in the segment.
Whether a technically overhauled D9 can expand Denza beyond China — the MPV was recently spotted in Melbourne, hinting at an Australian launch — may determine how far BYD's premium MPV ambitions travel.
