Camouflaged BYD Tang 9 appears to dwarf Huawei-backed AITO M9

BYD (HKG:1211) is set to unveil its D-segment flagship SUV, the Tang 9 series, alongside the Han 9 sedan in the first half of 2026. Spy photos suggest the Tang 9 will measure over 5.2 meters long and 2 meters wide, bringing yet another 9-series SUVs into China’s auto market.

The Tang 9 marks a key addition to BYD’s Dynasty sub-brand, which will position it to compete in the premium SUV segment above 400,000 CNY. Pricing is expected between 500,000 and 650,000 CNY (c. $72,000–$93,000), putting it in contention with rivals such as the AITO M9 and Li Auto L9.

Based on BYD’s 800V high-voltage platform, the SUV integrates the YunNian intelligent body control system. It offers a pure electric range exceeding 230 km (143 miles), while fast charging adds approximately 400 km (249 miles) of range with just five minutes of charging. The total combined range, which likely includes a hybrid engine, reaches around 1,300 km (808 miles).

Exterior design revealed in spy photos shows a continuous LED daytime running light strip across the front, paired with vertical headlamps and a trapezoidal lower grille accented with chrome.

The BYD Tang 9 appears to be larger in every dimension than the AITO M9, parked next to it on the spy photos. The M9 measures 5,230 mm in length, 1,999 mm in width, and 1,800 mm in height with a 3,110 mm long wheelbase.

The roof houses a LiDAR sensor to support advanced driver assistance functions. Door handles use a flush, hidden design, and the rear includes a large spoiler and full-width taillights that wrap slightly onto the sides.

The interior is expected to offer a six-seat 2+2+2 layout, with independent second-row captain’s chairs and a third row spacious enough to comfortably seat adults up to 175 cm tall. This seating configuration targets both small and large families requiring versatile passenger capacity.

The Tang 9 is part of BYD Dynasty’s long-term accumulation of vehicle technologies and reflects the company’s current highest manufacturing standards. The SUV aims to deliver a blend of new energy vehicle (NEV) technology, high-level autonomous driving assistance, and user-friendly cockpit interaction.

BYD has opened a public voting process for the SUV’s final name, with options including “Tang 9” and “Da Tang”, which translates to “Big Tang” or “Great Tang”.
