Chery's Exeed EX7 to launch world's first aviation-grade brake-by-wire system

Chery's premium brand Exeed confirmed April 19, 2026 as the launch date for the EX7, a mid-large five-seat SUV positioned at the top of the brand's domestic lineup.

The vehicle was initially announced for an April 17 debut before Exeed quietly moved the date back two days, posting an updated poster on April 13, 2026. The rescheduling reportedly avoids a launch-day collision with Zeekr's 8X plug-in hybrid SUV and Great Wall Motor's (HKG: 2333) Wey V9X flagship crossover — vehicles that could have pulled away a significant portion of the target audience.

The EX7 is the first vehicle of what Exeed calls its "3.0 era," designed to push the brand firmly into the CNY 200,000–300,000 segment (c. $29,300–$43,900). Multiple authoritative Chinese outlets have reiterated that price range. Pre-orders opened ahead of the launch with a CNY 999 (c. $146) deposit that unlocks a CNY 2,999 purchase discount, a complimentary in-car refrigerator, and priority invitations to the Beijing Auto Show and factory tours.

The EX7 measures 4,988 mm long, 1,975 mm wide, and 1,710 mm tall on a 3,000 mm wheelbase. Its exterior adopts Exeed's latest minimalist design language with split headlights, a closed front end, retractable door handles, and a single-unit rear taillight. A LiDAR pod sits on the roofline, signalling the standard fitment of the Falcon 700 driver assistance suite across all variants.

Inside, all trims carry the AI Smart Cockpit 2.0 as standard. The centrepiece is a 30-inch floating display estimated at 6K resolution and approximately 90% screen-to-body ratio, powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295P chip running 30 TOPS of on-device AI processing. The system integrates large-language-model AI and offers six selectable voice assistant personalities.

Two wireless phone chargers are fitted as standard alongside a 9.2-litre hot-and-cold refrigerator, 10-point front and 8-point rear massage seats, a head-up display, and a panoramic sunroof. Cabin volume is rated at 3.45 m³, and the rear seats reconfigure into a dual large-bed layout.

The Falcon 700 ADAS suite uses 27 sensors — LiDAR, millimeter-wave radar, and high-definition cameras — processed through an NVIDIA Orin-Y chip. It supports highway and urban Navigate on Autopilot (NOA) and covers more than 500 automated parking scenarios.

Two powertrain options are available. The pure-electric version pairs a 123 kW front motor with a 230 kW rear motor for 353 kW (473 hp) combined, with a 0–100 km/h time of 4.7 seconds. A 97.682 kWh battery on an 800V architecture delivers a CLTC range of 682–726 km (424–451 miles).

The extended-range variant adds a 1.5T range extender rated at 115 kW (154 hp), lifting combined output to 377 kW (505 hp) with 642 Nm of peak torque and a 0–100 km/h time of 4.9 seconds. Its CLTC pure-electric range runs 182–203 km (113–126 miles), combined range exceeds 1,500 km (932 miles), and depleted-battery fuel consumption is rated at 5.8 L/100 km.

Both four-wheel-drive variants use an aviation-grade full electro-mechanical brake-by-wire (EMB) system — what Exeed says is the world's first in mass-produced passenger car use. Two-wheel-drive models receive six-piston front brake calipers instead. The Flying Fish 3.0 platform underpins all variants with a full aluminium alloy subframe, CDC dampers, air suspension, and hydraulic bushing technology.

Exeed delivered just 6,377 units in China between January and March 2026 and the brand is counting on the EX7 to reverse that trajectory heading into the Beijing Auto Show period. Whether a spec sheet anchored in world-first braking technology, a full-range AI cockpit, and dual-power choice can carve space in an increasingly crowded premium segment remains to be seen when pricing is officially revealed on April 19.
