The energy consumption rate of the Firefly is at just 10 km per kWh, thanks to low-drag lightweight 18-inch rims, custom low rolling-resistance tires, and efficient electric drive systems.

During NIO Day, Founder and CEO William Li said that the Firefly brand is positioned to compete against high-end compact car brands like the MINI and Smart.

Firefly triple rings

The Firefly's brand identity, visual system, and overall design were personally overseen by Kris Tomasson, NIO's Senior Vice President of Design.

The Firefly features a trio of dynamic light rings that have been compared to the iPhone’s triple camera steup, symbolizing "the creation of myriad things" and good fortune.

The symmetric layout of the Tri-Lamp headlights and taillights at both ends of the vehicle creates a very distinctive and recognizable look.

The side skirts of the car are made of black eco-friendly composite materials. The clam-shell tailgate seamlessly integrates with the rear light assembly.

The car measures 4,003 mm in length, 1,781 mm in width, 1,557 mm in height, and has a 2,615 mm wheelbase.

The Firefly features the smallest turning radius in its vehicle class, at 4.7 meters and is capable of automatic parking.

The car also has a 92-liter front trunk, the largest in its class, which can be layered for storage and has a drainage function.

The rear seats can be folded flat, offering a super large, flat storage space of over 1250 liters.

The Firefly will use a single motor layout with 105 kW in maximum power output.

It also features a near 50:50 front-rear axle load ratio and a rear-wheel-drive motor layout, providing better traction and control.

Additionally, the car uses a rear five-link independent suspension system jointly tuned by Multimatic, a well-known international auto parts supplier.

The new car is also equipped with Bosch's Integrated Power Brake (IPB) OneBox intelligent brake-by-wire system.

It is designed to meet the dual five-star requirements of the latest Sino-Euro New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) with the highest torsional rigidity in its class and comes standard with up to nine airbags.
