Honda changes logo for the first time in 26 years, starting with EVs and hybrids

Honda Motor Co. (TYO:7267) said on January 13, 2026, that it will adopt a newly redesigned “H” logo as the unified symbol of its automotive business, with deployment beginning in 2027 on new battery electric and hybrid vehicles.

The new logo will first appear on the front and rear of future pure electric vehicles and hybrid models before being rolled out across Honda’s entire vehicle lineup and automotive-related operations. Honda said the emblem will also be used at dealerships, in brand communications, and in motorsports activities, expanding its presence across all major customer touchpoints.

The redesign was first revealed at CES 2024, where Honda showcased the emblem on its Honda 0 Series concept vehicles, including the 0 Series sedan, Space-Hub concept, and the 0 Saloon and 0 SUV concept models. The new design removes the rounded rectangular border used in Honda’s current logo and widens the internal angles of the “H,” creating a more open visual structure.

Honda said the new logo is intended to express the company’s determination to move beyond its origins while continuing to pursue new challenges and progress. The “H” shape represents Honda’s commitment to expanding the possibilities of mobility and responding directly to customer needs. Alongside the emblem, Honda has also redesigned its wordmark, replacing the thick red serif “HONDA” lettering with an uppercase sans-serif font featuring rounded corners.

The company acknowledged that the new logo references earlier versions used during the 1960s. Honda was founded in September 1948, and its earliest automotive emblem consisted of a standalone “H” without an enclosing border. In 1969, the logo was redesigned with a taller and narrower letter set against a black trapezoidal background. Further revisions followed in 1981 and 2000, culminating in the metallic gray emblem with a rounded rectangular frame that has been in use for more than two decades.

Honda said the current redesign is directly linked to its next-generation electric vehicle program, including the Honda 0 Series. The company described the initiative as “starting from zero,” reflecting an effort to return to its foundations as an automaker while developing a new generation of electric vehicles.

According to Honda, the new logo will be officially launched next year, with phased adoption accelerating from 2027. As a result, the Prelude two-door sports coupe and the Super-N urban electric vehicle introduced in the UK market in 2026 will be the final Honda models to carry the existing logo. Honda added that some vehicles already in production have begun using the new emblem, including the GAC Honda P7 and the Dongfeng Honda S7 manufactured in China.

As part of its broader product strategy, Honda plans to introduce at least 13 new hybrid models between 2027 and 2030. These vehicles will be equipped with what the company describes as its most efficient internal combustion-based powertrain to date, with fuel efficiency expected to improve by approximately 10%.

To support this rollout, Honda said its next-generation hybrid vehicles will achieve 60% core component commonality, including major structural elements such as the engine compartment and rear floor assemblies. The company has also indicated that weight reduction, aerodynamic optimization, and greater platform integration are central to its upcoming vehicle architecture.

Honda characterized the new “H” emblem as a symbol of its “second founding,” signaling its intention to lead during a period of industry transition by delivering new value through advanced technologies and design philosophies, without relying on established conventions.
