How does XPeng Mona M03's 0.194 Cd Ranks in China?

XPeng teased that its upcoming pure electric hatchback XPeng Mona M03 will boast a world-record 0.194 drag coefficient (Cd), outclassing the Xiaomi SU7 by 0.01 Cd. To put this figure in perspective, the lowest reference in aerodynamic studies is a teardrop with a 0.04 Cd. A high-speed train's Cd can vary between 0.13 - 0.15 Cd.

How does Mona M03 compare with other EV?

Mass-produced EV Sedan Aerodynamics Ranking in China

Only three years removed from Tesla's claim that the new Model S was the world's most aerodynamic production car with a 0.208 Cd, this record was broken multiple times in 2024 alone. Xiaomi SU7, Galaxy E8, and the Luxeed S7 facelift were launched in March, January, and April of 2024.

Tesla Model S Drag Coefficient 0.208 Cd

XPeng's Mona M03 is set to debut on July 3 with a record low 0.194 Cd. This feat is even more impressive when considering that the Mona M03 is expected to be priced between 100-150k RMB, well below most vehicles in the above chart.

How did XPeng achieve such wind resistance?

The Mona M03 features a meter-long active air intake grille (AGS), which opens to allow maximum airflow into the engine compartment for temperature control and closes at higher speeds to reduce wind resistance. AGS can reduce as much as 0.023 Cd.

The M03 also comes with a wind-guiding rear guard plate, arc-shaped air dam, low-resistance wheels, electric rearview mirrors and an aerodynamic ducktail.

The combined effect of all these vehicle features lowers drag to 0.194 Cd, which effectively increases driving range by up to 60 km.
