Huawei–backed Shangjie Z7 eyes for the Xiaomi SU7 with Q1 2026 launch

Huawei and SAIC Motor officially unveiled the Shangjie Z7 on January 7, 2026, confirming the model as the first fastback sedan under the Shangjie brand and the second vehicle in Huawei’s HIMA alliance produced with SAIC.

The Z7 is positioned as a mid-to-high-end new-energy coupe sedan and expands Shangjie’s lineup beyond the previously launched H5 SUV. The model was announced simultaneously by multiple Chinese technology and automotive outlets, with Huawei describing it as a core sedan offering within its HarmonyOS Intelligent Mobility ecosystem.

Shangjie is the fifth “Jie” brand under Huawei’s HIMA alliance and operates under the Smart Selection Vehicle cooperation model. SAIC Motor (SHA:600104) is responsible for manufacturing, while Huawei provides software architecture, intelligent driving systems, and in-vehicle operating systems.

Huawei Executive Director and Terminal BG Chairman Yu Chengdong previously stated that Shangjie would introduce two new models in 2026, including a high-end coupe sedan positioned as the most design-focused vehicle in the HarmonyOS lineup, positioned to compete with Xiaomi’s SU7.

Official teaser images released on January 7 show the Shangjie Z7 with a fastback coupe profile, wide rear shoulders, and a low-slung roofline. The vehicle features a roof-mounted LiDAR unit, semi-hidden door handles, large wheels, and Huawei’s blue ADAS indicator lights, which are associated with its advanced driver assistance systems.

The teaser poster carries the slogan “even more impressive than the new generation model,” a phrasing that may be read as an oblique reference to the recently updated Xiaomi SU7.

From a design perspective, the Z7’s side profile has been widely compared to the Porsche Taycan, while the front design reportedly follows the family styling language established by the Shangjie H5. The rear light design also shows visual similarities to the Taycan, though Shangjie has not commented on the comparison.

The Shangjie Z7 is expected to be positioned in the 200,000–300,000 CNY segment, equivalent to approximately $28,700–$43,000, placing the model in direct competition with mid-range electric sedans like the Xiaomi SU7 and Tesla Model 3.

The Z7’s official debut has yet been announced but may land sometime in spring 2026, while earlier disclosures referenced a first-quarter 2026 launch window for Shangjie’s high-end coupe. Shangjie has not confirmed a precise release date.

The Z7 is expected to be equipped with Huawei Qiankun ADS 4, the company’s latest intelligent driving system, alongside the HarmonyOS smart cockpit. The inclusion of roof-mounted LiDAR suggests support for advanced driver assistance functions that rely on multi-sensor fusion, though Shangjie has not released detailed specs.

Huawei and SAIC have also stated that the vehicle’s intelligent configuration does not have a predefined upper limit, indicating that software features and assisted driving capabilities will be a key selling point rather than fixed trim-based limitations.

In addition to the official teaser images, an unconfirmed spy photo circulating online appears to show a shooting-brake variant of the Shangjie Z7, featuring a more upright rear design and potentially increased cargo capacity. Shangjie has not acknowledged the existence of this variant.

The Shangjie Z7 represents Huawei’s first coupe sedan within the HarmonyOS Intelligent Mobility ecosystem, and its market reception will likely test how far Huawei’s software-centric automotive strategy can extend beyond SUVs into design-driven passenger car segments.
