New NIO ES7 NT3.0 spy photos reveal massive "frunk" and wide-angle LiDARs

New sets of spy photos of the camouflaged NIO ES7 reveal major upgrades from the current model.

To start with, the new NIO ES7 will ba built on the NT3.0 platform, which at the moment, only the NIO ET9 and Onvo L60 are on.

From the pictures, the most noticeable change is a massive front trunk or “frunk” that can be opened along with part of the front grille.

None of the NIO vehicles built on the previous NT2.0 and NT1.0 platforms featured a frunk space.

If the 105L frunk of the NIO ET9 is any indication, the NT3.0 NIO ES7 should also feature a sizeable frunk with an electric latch actuator that can be automatically activated with voice command.

The vehicle’s dimension and shape are very similar to the existing ES7 and likely will offer a six-seat configuration.

Another noteworthy change is that the vehicle is equipped with a lateral wide-angle LiDAR (from the left profile angle), similar to the ones seen on the ET9.

That would suggest that the new ES7 will come standard with a triple-LiDAR setup.

From the rear angle picture, we notice that the SUV will adopt a hidden rear wiper design and a roof mounted rearview camera.

Previous spy photos from March 15 showed a camouflaged car that looked just like the ES7’s design without the “watch tower” roof mounted cameras and LiDAR.

Unfortunately, the new photos don’t show further design cues on NIO’s iconic “watch tower” cameras/LiDAR setup.

NIO has previously revealed that the new ES7 will be officially released at the end of Q3 or beginning of Q4.

It is also expected that the ES7 facelift will be listed on the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's (MIIT) declaration catalog in July.
