According to a former Tesla store manager and Chinese car blogger (胖虎Shawn), Tesla has increased the daily production capacity of its Model Y facelift, codenamed as “Juniper”, to 200 units.
On December 7, Shawn revealed that the Tesla only produced a few dozen of new Model Y a day.

In just half a month, Tesla Gigafactory has ramped up significantly before the arrival of Spring Festival, which begins on January 29th and last until February 4th.
The Tesla Model Y facelift (“Juniper”) is expected to feature major new design elements, including through-type taillights and headlights.

During the Spring Festival, the production line will be suspended and will only resume in the new Chinese year.
The current Model Y will also see a reduction of 10,000 monthly production units through this gradual transition.
The face-lifted Model Y debut is imminent as the 5-year zero-interest financing promotion, originally launched in April 2024 and later extended as a year-end end promotion, will end on January 31, 2025.

The zero-interest financing policy has enabled prospective buyers to pay as low as 2,667 CNY per month for a Tesla Model Y.
Combined with national and local subsidies, buyers can save at least 50,000 CNY.
Local media reports suggested that the next two vehicles to be produced from Tesla’s Shanghai factory will be two new Model Y variants.

The first one will be mass-produced next month ahead of debut, similar to the Model 3 refresh, the new Model Y “Juniper” is expected to come with changes to the interior, exterior, battery capacity, motor performance, and autonomous driving hardware.
The second variant will be a 6-seater Model Y, expected to begin delivery only by Q4 of 2025.

Since 2021, Tesla has seen very strong growth in China from its lone SUV model, selling over 456,000 Model Y in 2023 and over 418,000 year-to-date as of November 2024.

Tesla needs to sell approximately 38,000 Model Y to achieve another year-on-year growth in 2024, despite a lack of exterior design change since debuting the vehicle in China on January 1, 2021.
