New Tesla Model Y "Juniper" Starts Pre-Orders at 263,500 CNY in China

| 6 days agoOn December 10, Tesla has officially unveiled the facelifted Model Y codenamed “Juniper” and opened pre-orders in China.
The reveal was made just before China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology’s publishing of catalog of new vehicles’ regulatory filings, which included the Model Y.

The facelift is available in two configurations, with pre-sale prices ranging from 263,500 CNY for the RWD (13,600 CNY, or 5.4% increase) and 303,500 CNY for the AWD (12,600 CNY, or 4.3% increase).
In China, both new variants are offered as a limited-time “Launch Series” and customers ordering before February 28 will receive two additional years or 40,000 kilometers of extended warranty.

Deliveries are expected to begin in March. As a major facelift, the new Model Y features upgrades in exterior design, interior, self-driving, range, handling, and safety.
With a drag coefficient of 0.23 Cd, the new Model Y can achieve CLTC electric range of up to 719 km, with a comprehensive energy consumption of only 11.9 kWh per 100 kilometers.

The new Model Y's exterior design is inspired by the Tesla Cybercab and Cybertruck, featuring front and rear full-width light bars and new wheels. A new Glacier Blue paint option is available.
That also means that the Model Y will diverge from the design language of not only previous models, but also from the new styling of the Model 3 “Highland”, and instead align with its future robotaxi.
The refreshed Model Y measures 4797/1920/1624 mm (L/W/H) with a wheelbase of 2890 mm, 47 mm longer and 1 mm narrower than the previous model.
The autonomous driving hardware is upgraded to AI4 with two HW 4.0 driving chips and eight high-definition cameras supporting lane change assist and lane centering.

Enhanced Autopilot and Full Self-Driving (FSD) capabilities are available as optional packages.
Interior upgrades include ambient lighting, ventilated front seats, extended rear seats by 15 mm, and an 8-inch rear screen, controling seat heating, air conditioning, and media playback.

The new panoramic glass roof with a silver coating enhances sun protection, insulation, and quietness, and a new far-side airbag improves safety.
The 15.4-inch central screen is powered by an AMD Ryzen processor, supporting 4G, voice recognition, remote control via a mobile app, and OTA updates.

The new Model Y offers single-motor rear-wheel-drive and dual-motor all-wheel-drive versions.
The rear-wheel-drive version has a 220 kW motor, 440 Nm of torque, 0-100 km/h acceleration in 5.9 seconds, and a 62.5 kWh battery with a CLTC range of 593 km, supporting up to 170 kW charging power.
The long-range all-wheel-drive version features front induction asynchronous and rear permanent magnet synchronous motors, with a rear motor of 194 kW peak power and a front motor of 137 kW for a combined power of 331 kW and 559 Nm of torque.

The RWD is equipped with LFP batteries from CATL while the AWD is powered by lithium ternary batteries from LG Energy Solution.
The new model accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds, with a 78.4 kWh battery offering a CLTC range of 719 km and supporting up to 250 kW charging power.
The chassis retains the front double-wishbone and rear multi-link independent suspension but is newly tuned for improved comfort and stability, with a 51% improvement in vibration filtering on rough roads.

The front end now features a full-width light bar, enhancing the technological feel and visual width. The front bumper has air intakes on both sides, giving it a more aggressive look.
The side profile retains the coupe-like design with hidden door handles, new mirror styles, and wheel options of 19 and 20 inches.

The rear end also sees significant changes with a full-width taillight, featuring a diffuse reflection design.
Comfort features include ambient lighting with 256 colors, ventilated front seats, a new panoramic glass roof with a silver coating, and a far-side airbag.
