On October 17, 2025, Tesla China announced that deliveries for its six-seat SUV Model Y L—built at the Shanghai Gigafactory—are now expected to begin in December 2025, citing full booking of October and November slots and ongoing production ramp efforts. Tesla’s delivery waiting time reflects high demand and constrained manufacturing capacity.

Waiting times remain longer than the rear-wheel drive and Long Range all-wheel drive variants of the Tesla Model Y, which are estimated at 3-5 weeks and 2-4 weeks, respectively.

The Model Y L is a longer, six-seat variant launched August 19, 2025, positioned above the standard Model Y to appeal to families.
It measures 4,976 × 1,920 × 1,668 mm, with a 3,040 mm wheelbase and weighs about 2,088 kg and features dual motors producing 340 kW (462 hp), 0–100 km/h in 4.5 seconds, top speed ~201 km/h, and an 82 kWh battery delivering a CLTC range of 751 km (c. 466 miles). Charging supports up to 250 kW, with 15 minutes adding approximately 250 km of driving range.
In September 2025, Model Y retail sales in China reached 51,173 units, up 29.8% month-over-month and 6.16% year-over-year, aided by the Model Y L launch. That contributed to Tesla retail China sales hitting 71,525 units—its second-highest monthly total in 2025.

Tesla’s wholesale deliveries from its Shanghai plant totaled 90,812 units in September, up 2.8% year-over-year, reversing a two-month decline.
Strategically, the Y L underscores Tesla’s adaptation to Chinese consumer preferences for larger, three-row EVs. It marks a shift from its five-seat global models into China-specific variants.
On the technical side, the Y L uses Tesla’s existing architecture but with modifications to support extra length and weight.
Its computing and software system remains tied to Tesla’s FSD/Autopilot stack.
Battery data filed with MIIT reveals dual-motor outputs of 142 kW front and 198 kW rear; energy density is ~176 Wh/kg for the 82 kWh pack.

Beyond charge and range, the Y L offers enhanced cabin space: Tesla claims 2,539 liters of cargo volume with flexible folding rows.
The third-row space is modest, and headroom is limited — observers have flagged that it’s more comfortable for children than adults.
It retains Tesla’s minimalist interior, large touchscreen, and OTA over-the-air updates, with few deviations from current Model Y electronics.
The base price is 339,000 CNY (c. $47,600) and Tesla offers limited-time incentives: an 8,000 CNY paint option credit for referrals and a 3-year 0% financing plan for orders placed before October 31.
Conversion rate: 1 USD = 7.12 CNY as of October 17, 2025
