NIO to launch new models from April onwards; new "5566" MIIT pictures next week

On February 8, Founder and CEO William Li revealed during a live interview that the company plans to launch facelifts and new models from April until the end of 2025.

The facelifted ES6, EC6, ET5, and ET5T, commonly carrying the “5566” moniker in China, will officially launch in May and June.

William Li also mentioned that the new models will be revealed next week in the China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) regulatory filing catalog.

The CEO also reassured current and prospective buyers that the facelifted 5566 models will not be priced lower than the current models, reinforcing that now is the best time to purchase NIO or Onvo cars, especially considering ongoing limited time purchase incentives.

In fact, just last week, NIO upgraded its interest-free financing option from 3 to 5 years, matching what is currently offered at Tesla.

The facelifts, according to William, will feature three main changes across its exterior styling, interior design, such as a horizontal center screen, and intelligent driving hardware with its self-developed Shenji NX9031 chip.

We also learned that NIO will only complete the facelifts and upgrades of its entire vehicle lineup by 2026.

For Onvo, we can expect the release of a large 5-seater SUV (L70) and a mid-to-large 6/7 seater SUV (L80) in 2025.

Onvo officially launched its first model, the L60, on September 19, 2024 to compete directly with the Model Y.

NIO is also expected to begin deliveries of its flagship executive sedan, NIO ET9, in March.

In 2024, the NIO brand did not release a new car and the founder explained that they emphasized on developping the battery swapping network.

Jiangsu has already achieved county-level coverage for battery swapping stations ahead of schedule, and Zhejiang is close to completing it.

By the first half of 2025, the goal is to achieve county-level battery swapping coverage in 14 provinces.
