Nissan has brought the NX8, a mid-to-large SUV developed for China, into public view after the model appeared in street photographs and regulatory filings in December 2025.
The vehicle targets the country’s expanding family-oriented new-energy SUV segment and will be offered with both pure-electric and range-extended (EREV) powertrains.

The NX8 adopts Nissan’s latest N-series design language, which underpins several of the brand’s recent models for China. The front uses a closed fascia, a full-width light bar, an illuminated logo, and L-shaped or flag-shaped headlamp elements.

A black trapezoidal lower section broadens the stance. Street sightings also show a roof-mounted LiDAR module, suggesting support for advanced driver-assistance functions such as highway and city navigation assistance and automated parking.

At the rear, the vehicle uses a 2.4-meter OLED light bar composed of 2,064 lighting units. Dimensions are 4,870 mm long, 1,920 mm wide, and 1,680 mm high, with a 2,917-mm wheelbase. Nissan positions the NX8 as a five-seat SUV aimed at households seeking spacious electric or hybrid-electric options.

The exterior incorporates hidden door handles, multiple dual-tone wheel designs ranging from 18 to 20 inches, black lower body trim, and a slightly descending roofline. Body colors include blue, purple, and other trend-oriented finishes.

Interior details have not been formally disclosed, though leaked images point to a dual-screen layout combining a central display and a passenger entertainment screen. A full digital instrument cluster and a head-up display are expected.
The cabin is likely to include ambient lighting, a two-spoke steering wheel, a column-mounted electronic shifter, a floating lower console, and two 50-W wireless charging pads. Some configurations may share components with the N7, including zero-pressure seating, a temperature-controlled storage unit, and a panoramic roof, pending official confirmation.

Data published in MIIT regulatory filings show two powertrain configurations. The range-extended version uses a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine rated at 109 kW, operating solely as a generator. The electric drive motor produces 195 kW, paired with 20.3 kWh, 21.1 kWh, or 37.4 kWh battery packs. These yield CLTC electric driving ranges of 102 km (63 miles) and 185 km (115 miles), depending on the configuration.

The pure-electric version offers 215 kW and 250 kW single-motor options, with a listed top speed of 180 km/h (112 mph). It operates on an 800-V silicon-carbide architecture and uses CATL’s LFP cells that supports 5C fast charging, aimed at reducing charge times to near refueling durations.
Developed in China by Dongfeng Nissan, the NX8 represents a strategic entry into a segment where domestic manufacturers are increasingly dominating. Nissan has not announced a launch schedule or final specifications.
As competition intensifies among mid-to-large NEV SUVs, the NX8 raises the question of whether a joint venture brand can regain momentum in a market increasingly dominated by emerging domestic NEVs.
