Nio Inc’s (NYSE:NIO) mass-market sub-brand Onvo released its L90 three-row electric SUV on July 31, 2025 and began deliveries the following day.
Ten days later, 4,069 units had already been delivered based on insurance registrations, a pace that puts the L90 on track to break NIO’s own monthly sales record held by the NIO ES6 with 11,118 units.
That continues the strong momentum as Onvo delivered 1,980 L90 through August 1-3, beating any previous NIO launches in just 3 days.
NIO’s Hefei plant, where the L90 is manufactured, is operating at full capacity to support the ramp-up. The achievement is notable because the L90 is a new model and the largest SUV in the company’s line-up.
Onvo’s initial delivery volume provides a benchmark for other recent Chinese EV launches. Xiaomi’s YU7 SUV, for example, opened order books on June 26, 2025 and amassed 200,000 pre-orders in 3 minutes, yet its first-month deliveries in July totalled only 6,042 units.

Production constraints at Xiaomi’s single plant and a new factory still being commissioned mean that buyers currently face a wait of more than ten months.
Onvo’s 4,069 deliveries in ten days equate to roughly two-thirds of Xiaomi YU7’s first-month total, illustrating how rapidly NIO’s sub-brand is scaling production.

Even so, demand has stretched supply: local media reported that the L90’s delivery lead time has doubled from 4-6 weeks during the launch period to 8-10 weeks as orders piled up and Onvo sought to deliver more than 10,000 units in August.

The L90’s sales momentum also reshaped China’s weekly SUV rankings. Insurance registration data from early August placed the L90 second among large SUVs with 2,093 registrations during the week of August 4-10, trailing only Huawei-backed Aito M8’s 3,690 units and surpassing the combined total of Li Auto’s L9 and L8 extended-range SUVs.

With a daily delivery rate of roughly 400 units, Onvo could surpass the 11,118 units delivered by Nio’s ES6 in July 2023—the company’s current record for a single model—if production holds.
The only other vehicle model that has sold more than 10,000 units in a month is Onvo’s first car, the L60, with 10,528 units in December 2024.
The L90 is the second vehicle under the Onvo brand (after the mid-sized L60) and marks NIO’s attempt to compete in the large-SUV segment.

A six- or seven-seat layout makes the L90 suitable for families, while NIO leverages its battery-swap network to differentiate the model.
Unlike range-extended hybrids from Li Auto (NASDAQ:LI), the L90 is a full battery-electric vehicle. Its launch price of 265,800 yuan (c. $37,000) with battery undercuts similarly sized premium SUVs and is around 14,100 yuan lower than the pre-sale price; customers can also choose a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) plan that lowers the purchase price to 179,800 yuan (c. $25,100) and adds a monthly battery rental of 899 yuan (c. $125).
Onvo offers three variants—Pro, Max and Ultra—priced at approximately 265,800 yuan (c. $37,000), 279,800 yuan (c. $39,000) and 299,800 yuan (c. $41,800) respectively, with an extra 6,000 yuan (c. $800) charge for seven-seat configurations.

Technically, the L90 is built on NIO’s full-domain 900-V high-voltage platform. An 85 kWh long-range battery supports a CLTC-rated range of up to 605 km (c. 376 miles).
Energy consumption for the single-motor rear-wheel-drive version is 14.5 kWh/100 km under the CLTC cycle. According to NIO, the standard 85 kWh pack charges from 10 % to 80 % in 25 minutes using DC fast-charging, or can be replaced via more than 3,400 battery-swap stations, which also allow a full swap in about three minutes.
The company has also rolled out over 4,659 public chargers and built swap routes across 20 expressways connecting 550 cities, giving L90 owners broad coverage for road trips.

The vehicle’s standard rear-wheel-drive variant uses a permanent-magnet synchronous motor; the dual-motor all-wheel-drive version produces 440 kW and accelerates from 0–100 km/h in 4.7 seconds. Thanks to an aluminum-intensive body and other lightweight technologies, the L90 weighs just 2,250 kg.
The L90’s design emphasises space and aerodynamics. Designed by former Bentley designer Raul Pires, the body measures 5,145 mm in length with a 3,110 mm wheelbase and incorporates 107 aerodynamic optimisations to achieve a drag coefficient of 0.25 Cd.

The spatial layout, enabled by the 900-V architecture, provides an effective cabin length of 4,195 mm, a 670 L storage area and a 240 L frunk.
The interior offers five exterior colour choices and six- or seven-seat configurations with three optional cabin themes.
Standard features include a 16-million-colour ambient-lighting system, premium wood trims and titanium soft-glow accents.

Nine airbags, including a 2.92-metre side-curtain airbag with a capacity of 56 L extending from the first to the third row, are fitted for safety.
The cabin integrates Onvo’s NT.Coconut 2.0 software stack, coordinating smart cockpit, driver-assistance and connectivity functions. The L90 boasts 45 advanced driver-assistance features, such as end-to-end autonomous emergency braking, built on a data set of 170 million km of real-world driving.
