The much anticipated Precept concept car from Polestar, called the Polestar 5, was spotted in Scandinavia running tests with camouflage.

The Polestar 5 is a futuristic four-door hatchback benchmarking the likes of the Tesla Model S, Lucid Air, Porsche Taycan, and the Mercedes-Benz EQS.

The Polestar 5 is expected to feature a maximum motor power output of 872 horsepower and a torque of 900 Nm.

Polestar is also partnering with StoreDot to introduce its ultra-fast charging technology, capable of providing 160 kilometers of range in just under 5 minutes.

In April 2024, StoreDot held a charging demo demonstrating a Polestar 5 equipped with StoreDot’s XFC cells, charging a 77 kWh battery pack from 10% to 80% in under 10 minutes.

In China, Polestar currently only sells three models, the Polestar 2, Polestar 3, and Polestar 4.

The Polestar 5 would complete a Tesla-like 4x EV models “SEXY” with 2x mass-market sedan/SUV and 2x high-end sedan/SUV.

Should the Polestar 5 be introduced to the Chinese market, given its benchmarking against the Tesla Model S priced at 684,900 - 814,900 CNY, we would expect a similar positioning at the 700 - 800K CNY pricing level.

At the moment, it remains unclear whether the Polestar 5 will be concurrently introduced to the Chinese market, but if Tesla Model S sales are any indications, this will not be a volume driver.

As of November 2024 year-to-date, Tesla sold no more than 254 Model S and 1,243 Model X in China.

While domestic sales in China have been subpar since launch, Polestar has been a sizeable EV exporter of Chinese manufactured Polestars since June 2024.

Exports ramped up rapidly from 1,659 units exported in May to a peak of 8,872 vehicles in September.

However, exports dropped to 3,516 and 1,656 in October and November of 2024, with most of the decline coming from the Polestar 2 and Polestar 3.

Polestar launched end of year promotions on December 10, announcing a limited-time 5-year interest-free financing policy on all Polestar cars.

Purchases of Polestar 4 models will also receive up to 85,000 CNY in benefits and additional optional subsidies of up to 50,000 CNY.

The Polestar 4 is currently available in two versions, the single motor standard range at retail price of 339,000 CNY and the dual motor long range at 399,900 CNY.
