Polestar China Achieved a Record Export Sales in July 2024

Polestar China achieved a record single-month export sales in July 2024, delivering 6,752 vehicles consisting of 773 Polestar 2, 1,520 Polestar 3, and 4,459 Polestar 4.

Moreover, local media found that Polestar 3 was included in the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) catalogue, suggesting an imminent launch into the Chinese market.

Record June 2024: 412 vehicles sold in China

Polestar China achieved a record monthly sales of 412 vehicles in June 2024, 160 Polestar 2 and 252 Polestar 4.

As of June 2024, Polestar has only delivered a total of 5,906 vehicles since January 2020.

China sales that far exceed 2023's

Sales have improved significantly from the low baseline level of 2023, with every month of 2024 far exceeding the previous year.

The last time Polestar exceeded 400 vehicles sold in China was in November of 2022.

Trending to be the best single-year of sales in China

Cumulatively, Polestar has delivered 1,612 vehicles in China, which nearly doubles the total of 2023 (983 vehicles) according to insurance registrations.

Polestar will likely exceed its annual sales record in China set in 2022 with 1,717 vehicles delivered.

Export market remains Polestar's backbone: > 20,000

While Polestar's sales are improving, it is no secret that their sales performance in the Chinese market pales against export sales.

In July 2024 alone, Polestar China exported 6,752 vehicles manufactured in Chengdu to overseas markets. This single month export figure exceeds Polestar's cumulative sales in China.

In 2024, Polestar delivered a total of 20,381 vehicles, 4,575 of which were Polestar 3, which began to be exported in March of 2024.

Polestar 3 in MIIT's catalogue

The Polestar 3 was found in the latest MIIT new vehicle catalogue, suggesting its imminent launch in the Chinese market.

Polestar previously announced that the Polestar 3 will be priced between CNY 698,000 - 798,000 in China. The 3 is currently only sold in international markets.

At present, the Polestar 3 is manufactured in either Chengdu, China or South Carolina, United States.

This new model is benchmarked in China against luxury mid-size SUVs like the Tesla Model X, BMW iX, and M-Hero 917.

The Polestar 3 measures 4,900 mm in length, 1,968 mm in width, and 1,614 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,985 mm. In comparison, the Tesla Model X measures 5,057/1,999/1,680 mm (L/W/H) and 2,965 mm in wheelbase.

The Polestar 3 comes in two dual-motor variants: the Long Range and Performance models. The Long Range version delivers a CLTC range of 670 km, with a maximum power output of 360 kW (173kW/187kW) and peak torque of 840 N·m.

The Performance version offers a slightly lower CLTC range of 620 km but compensates with higher power: 380 kW (180kW/200kW) and 910 N·m of peak torque.

A single-motor version has also been launched in Europe, but has yet been made available in China.
