Stellantis-backed Leapmotor breaks 50,000 deliveries and announces Lafa5 SUV

On September 1, Leapmotor announced having delivered a record-high of 57,066 deliveries in August and year-on-year increase of more than 88%.

At the same time, the company revealed that the Leapmotor Lafa5 will be unveiled at the Munich Motor Show on September 8.

Based on the car outlines and headlight design from the poster, we suspect that the Lafa5 is a compact version of the B01 sedan released earlier this year that is known as the B05.

The Lafa5 will be an electric hatchback with dimensions ideal for the European market and will likely compete with the Volkswagen ID.3, Cupra Born and MG 4 EV.

Last December, Founder, Chairman and CEO Zhu Jiangming revealed in an interview that Leapmotor will offer four series of A, B, C, and D through the next three years to address the market of NEVs priced between 60,000 to 300,000 yuan with 14 cars.

At the moment, Leapmotor has 7 car models sold in China, 4 C-series, 2 B-series, and a unique T03 model. The C-series, which includes the C10, C11, C16, and C01, have covered prices from 120,000 to 210,000 yuan.

The best-selling Leapmotor in 2025 is the C10 SUV, offered in both extended-range (EREV) and all-electric, and has sold over 66,000 units as of July 2025.

Leapmotor has had nothing short of a meteoric rise in China, starting 2024 with just over 12,000 monthly sales to end the year with over 40,000 units sold in December.

Last month, Leapmotor has eclipsed both extended-range rivals Li Auto and Huawei-backed AITO in monthly deliveries, doubling Li Auto’s 28,529 deliveries.
