Tesla China has removed the option to order new Model S and Model X vehicles from its Chinese website (tesla.cn), leaving only inventory cars available for purchase.
A Tesla sales representative in Beijing confirmed to Beijing News that while showrooms still have existing stock, new orders are currently unavailable.

The Tesla China website now displays a "Learn More" button instead of the usual order option for both flagship models. Meanwhile, prospect buyers can still place orders for the Model Y (2-4 weeks wait-time for RWD / 3-5 weeks for AWD) and Model 3 (1-3 weeks).
Though dealerships can still sell the remaining inventory, the suspension of new orders suggests a supply disruption. Tesla China has not yet responded to media requests for clarification.

Unlike the locally produced Model 3 and Y, the Model S and X are manufactured in Fremont, California, and imported to China.
The order freeze coincides with heightened U.S.-China trade tensions, including today’s newly announced reciprocal tariffs by China, which likely have severely impacted Tesla’s import logistics or profitability.

China announced that it will raise tariffs on all U.S. goods from 84% to 125%, effective on Saturday, April 12, the latest escalation between the world’s two largest economies.
The retaliation comes after U.S. President Donald Trump raised tariffs on China to a total of 145% while pausing import taxes for other countries.

Despite these news, Tesla Model S/X have been inconsequential from a sales standpoint. The two models combined have sold less than 2,000 units in all of 2024.
The Model S was priced at 684,900 - 814,900 RMB, while the Model X is priced at 724,900 - 824,900 RMB.
