Tesla China reportedly accumulated 120,000 pre-orders since Model Y L launch

On September 3, a salesperson at a Tesla store in Beijing reportedly told Financial Associated Press reporter that the Tesla Model Y L has already accumulated 120,000 pre-orders since August 19 launch.

He claims that the new SUV has received daily order volume of almost 10,000 units and deliveries to the first orders are under way.

On Tesla China’s official configuration page, the Model Y L priced at 339,000 yuan shows an estimated delivery date of October 2025.

Meanwhile, the single motor and the Long Range dual-motors variants of the regular Model Y indicate an estimated delivery time of 1-3 weeks.

According to insurance registrations, Tesla delivered roughly 7,600 Model Y through the week of August 25-31, a -8% decline from the previous week’s 8,300 deliveries.

Meanwhile, Tesla’s biggest Model Y rival coming from phone maker Xiaomi’s YU7 SUV, have significantly reduced the gap in sales last week as the Xiaomi YU7 delivered 5,500 units to customers, a 41% week-on-week change.

However, we note that those deliveries may not include many Model Y L as deliveries have only begun in recent days. Model Y L likely will help Tesla lift following weeks’ sales, but it remains to see whether it’s enough to compete with Xiaomi’s blockbuster SUV.

As a reminder, the YU7 had received 200,000 pre-orders within the first 3 minutes of launch in China, of which 120,000 were locked-in orders (with non-refundable deposits).

While the Model Y L seems to be gaining strong traction in China, the newly launched 830-km range Model 3 Long Range RWD on August 12 has already received a 10,000 yuan price cut on September 1, potentially due to weak order intake.

Xiaomi’s SU7 sedan delivered 6.300 units through the August 25-31 week, compared to 4,800 Tesla Model 3.
