Xiaomi Vision GT concept spotted in Barcelona ahead of MWC 2026 reveal

A heavily wrapped, low-slung supercar concept bearing Xiaomi (HKG: 1810) branding was photographed in Spain on February 27, 2026, days before the company's scheduled appearance at Mobile World Congress 2026 (MWC) in Barcelona. The sighting confirmed what the industry had anticipated since the partnership was first announced: Xiaomi's first Vision Gran Turismo concept is real, and it runs.

The Vision Gran Turismo (VGT) program is operated by Polyphony Digital, the Sony subsidiary behind the long-running Gran Turismo racing simulation franchise. Xiaomi and Polyphony Digital formally announced their collaboration on June 7, 2025, during Round One of the Gran Turismo World Series in London.

Gran Turismo series producer Kazunori Yamauchi had previously test-driven the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra at circuits in Beijing, the Nürburgring Nordschleife, and Tsukuba before the partnership was confirmed. As part of the deal, the SU7 Ultra became the first Chinese-branded vehicle ever featured in the Gran Turismo franchise.

Spy photographs show the concept beneath a protective wrap in a light blue finish, consistent with a teaser image posted by Xiaomi EV on Weibo on February 28.

Founder and CEO Lei Jun subsequently confirmed on Weibo that an official unveiling was imminent, with full specifications expected on March 1, 2026. The Xiaomi Vision GT is scheduled to be formally revealed at the Fira Gran Via exhibition centre on March 2, 2026, the opening day of MWC, which runs through March 5.

Based on the spy shots, the vehicle features an extreme low-slung, wide-body stance consistent with a central-cockpit or mid-engine layout. A large carbon-fibre rear spoiler, prominent side skirts, multiple front air-channel intakes, and an extensive rear diffuser section are all visible through the wrap material.

"Xiaomi" is clearly emblazoned on the wheel faces. A shark-fin structure also appears on the roofline — a feature mandatory on WEC Hypercar-class racing vehicles — though this detail was absent from independently circulated renderings and should be treated as unconfirmed. Aerodynamic dimensions, downforce figures, and powertrain specifications have not been released.

The VGT program has historically featured European and Japanese marques, including Mercedes-Benz, Ferrari, Bugatti, Dodge, and Mazda. Xiaomi's Vision GT will be the first VGT vehicle designed by a Chinese automaker in the program's 28-year history.

The concept operates without the regulatory, homologation, or mass-production constraints that govern road cars — the VGT brief exists specifically to let manufacturers realise designs unconstrained by commercial reality.

The timing of the Barcelona appearance is not coincidental. Exactly one year earlier, at MWC 2025, Xiaomi unveiled the SU7 Ultra — its 1,548 Ps tri-motor performance sedan — in the same city. That car, priced from 529,900 CNY (c. $77,300), received more than 10,000 orders within two hours of opening sales.

A production SU7 Ultra driven by Vincent Radermecker subsequently set the Nürburgring Nordschleife record for a production electric vehicle in June 2025 with a lap time of 7:04.957, improving on a prototype's 6:46.874 set in October 2024. The SU7 Ultra delivers 1,770 Nm of torque, a CLTC range of 630 km (391 miles), and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 1.98 seconds.

The SU7 Ultra's sales trajectory tells a more complicated story. Monthly volumes exceeded 3,000 units during the early delivery phase in 2025 before falling sharply to just 45 units in December of that year.

The Vision GT concept, being a non-production vehicle built for a video game collaboration, carries no commercial imperative — but as a brand exercise, it positions Xiaomi alongside Ferrari and Bugatti in one of motorsport's most recognisable digital franchises.

Whether the concept hints at a future production halo car, or remains a purely virtual exercise, may become clearer once Lei Jun takes the stage at the Fira Gran Via.
