Xiaomi YU7 GT with Nürburgring SUV record launches at $57,300

Xiaomi (HKEX: 1810) officially launched the YU7 GT on May 21, 2026, at a "Human × Car × Home" ecosystem event in Beijing, pricing the high-performance electric SUV from 389,900 CNY (c. $57,300) — with a fully-loaded configuration reaching 429,900 CNY (c. $63,200). An optional GT Sport Package adds 34,000 CNY at list price, discounted to 14,000 CNY during the launch period.

Pre-orders opened the same evening at 21:00 China time, requiring a 20,000 CNY deposit. Orders left unlocked after three days are fully refundable; buyers have until May 24 to adjust configurations. Spot delivery inventory was available from launch night, with some units promised within two hours of purchase.

The YU7 GT arrives alongside a revised standard YU7 that was also unveiled at the same event, priced from 233,500 CNY (c. $34,300) — a direct response to competitive pressure from Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA). During the event, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun acknowledged that the original YU7's gap over the Model Y had not been wide enough to consistently outsell it, and that the revised lineup is designed to address that. The broader YU7 family has accumulated 232,000 deliveries since its June 2025 debut, and Xiaomi has shipped more than 600,000 EVs in under two years.

The GT's headline performance figure is a 7:22.755 lap of the Nürburgring Nordschleife, set on April 2 with the optional Track Package installed, making it the fastest production SUV in the circuit's recorded history. That time is 14 seconds quicker than the previous record held by the Audi RS Q8 Performance (7:36.698).

Two days before the launch event, Xiaomi had already announced a separate certified run of 7:34.931 without the Track Package, driven by Xiaomi chief test driver Ren Zhoucan — the first Chinese professional racer to receive official Nürburgring lap certification. In head-to-head testing against the Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT, the YU7 GT recorded 32 wins, 17 losses, and one draw.

Underpinning those results is Xiaomi's new Jiaolong Chassis Master Edition, developed with input from the company's Munich-based R&D centre, which opened in March 2025. The chassis combines dual-valve CDC variable dampers with closed dual-chamber air suspension, a segment-first electronic limited-slip differential (eLSD), and the same carbon-ceramic braking system used on the SU7 Ultra — Akebono six-piston front and four-piston rear calipers, stopping from 100 km/h (62 mph) in 32.9 metres.

The powertrain pairs a new V8s EVO rear motor with a V6s Plus front unit. The V8s EVO peaks at 28,000 rpm, uses a proprietary silicon carbide power module rated at 800 amps of continuous current, and achieves a peak efficiency of 98.38% — a 5.9% output improvement over the previous V8s. Combined system output is listed at 1,003 PS (738 kW), with a 0–100 km/h time of 2.92 seconds and a top speed of 300 km/h (186 mph).

The YU7 GT carries a 101.7 kWh NMC (nickel manganese cobalt) battery and an 897-volt high-voltage architecture. CLTC-rated range is 705 km (438 miles). Body dimensions are 5,015 mm long, 2,007 mm wide, and 1,597 mm tall, on a 3,000 mm wheelbase. Cargo capacity is 141 litres in the front trunk and 660 litres in the rear, expanding to 1,740 litres with the rear seats folded. Standard equipment includes a 25-speaker audio system with Dolby Atmos, active noise cancellation, and a four-seat massaging cabin.

The GT is offered in five colours across four themes: Cherry Red, Volcano Grey, Obsidian Black and Pearl White, and Titanium Metallic. Xiaomi had pre-positioned display vehicles at 268 stores in 82 Chinese cities ahead of the launch. The company is targeting 550,000 total deliveries in 2026.

Conversion rate: 1 USD = 6.80 CNY as of May 21, 2026.
