XPeng G7 with L3 hardware for under $30K receives 10,000 pre-orders in 9 minutes

On July 3, 2025, XPeng opened pre-orders for its latest SUV, the XPeng G7 and received 10,000 locked-in orders in just 9 minutes.

The XPeng G7 is priced well below its pre-sales price of 235,800 RMB ($32,900) announced back on June 11. In fact, the G7 offers three variants, the Max version at 195,800 RMB ($27,300), the Long Range Max version at 205,800 RMB ($28,700), and the Long Range Ultra version at 225,800 RMB ($31,500).

In other words, the XPeng G7 is coming in at 40,000 RMB ($5,600) lower than its previously announced pre-sales price, or roughly 17% more affordable.

That places the G7 right in between the XPeng G6 and G9, starting at 176,800 RMB ($24,700) and 238,800 RMB ($33,300), respectively.

While the G7 benchmarks against the Tesla Model Y and Xiaomi YU7, both are significantly more expensive, starting at 263,500 RMB ($36,800) and 253,500 RMB ($35,400), respectively. In fact, the base model G7 is 67,700 RMB ($9,400) or 25.7% cheaper than the Model Y.

Just a week ago, Xiaomi started accepting pre-orders for its new Xiaomi YU7, which was a major blockbuster launch in China, receiving 200,000 pre-orders in 3 minutes. Of that, 120,000 orders were locked-in (non-refundable).

While the G7 did not get nearly as much of orders (no other car does), Chairman and Founder He Xiaopeng said that early sales data are very good and “we are confident that we will achieve good results”.

The XPeng G7 is positioned as an L3-hardware ready vehicle, featuring three of the company’s in-house developed Turing chip with a total of 2,250 TOPS. No other smart EVs pack that much computing power, not to mention competitive price.

The G7 also features 5C charging on 800V platform and can drive up to 702 km in CLTC range on the Long Range versions (80.8 kWh battery) and 602 km on the Max version (68.5 kWh).

All three G7 versions are single rear drive motor with 218 kW (296 horsepower) of motor power, enough to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 6.6 seconds on the Max version and 6.5 seconds on the Long Range versions.

The G7 measures 4,892mm in length, 1,925mm in width and 1,655mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,890mm. In other words, XPeng’s new SUV is 95mm longer, 5mm wider and 31mm taller than the Model Y, while sharing the same wheelbase length.

Despite that larger measurement, the G7 offers similar rear compartment space of 819 liters of trunk space (vs 822L for the Model Y) and 2,277 liters of space with the backseats folded (vs 2,022L).

While the XPeng G7 features a frunk (front trunk), it is noticeably smaller (42L) than the Model Y’s (116L).
