XPeng G9 refresh ditches LiDAR to adopt vision-based autonomous driving

On March 6, XPeng officially released the XPeng G9 refresh, featuring 66 comprehensive upgrades to its largest and most high-end SUV.

The G9 refresh has notably removed the LiDAR system to adopt the comapny’s Turing AI vision-based ADAS technology across all trims, seen in the XPeng MONA M03 and P7+.

Sales representatives have revealed that the new car will be priced in mid-March (next week).

This change means that the cost of the new XPeng G9 is expected to decrease further, as cameras are less expensive than LiDAR.

The XPeng G9 will be available in three new exterior colors: Night Black, Nebula White, and Star Blue.

The rear-wheel-drive G9 has its motor's maximum power increased to 258kW, while the four-wheel-drive version's front/rear motor power is 165/258kW, respectively, with a combined power output of 423kW.

All models are equipped with lithium iron phosphate 5C batteries, boasting a peak power of 530kW and charging from 10% to 80% in just 12 minutes.

The entry-level model has a 79kWh CATL battery pack, offering a CLTC range of 625km.

The high-end and four-wheel-drive versions are equipped with a 93.1kWh battery pack, offering ranges of 725km and 680km, respectively.

Furthermore, the G9 achieves the lowest energy consumption in its class at 13.9kWh, with a CLTC pure electric range of 725km.

In terms of safety, the vehicle is equipped with a battery protection frame featuring "bulletproof armor," capable of withstanding the pressure of 20 adult elephants, with a top heat resistance of 1000°C, a side impact resistance of 80 tons, and a bottom impact resistance of 2000J.

The new G9's front grille has been equipped with a 3D millimeter-wave radar, and the LiDAR below the current model's headlights has been replaced with a black trim panel.
