XPeng Chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng said, “We’re delivering a product that directly and rapidly transforms how people travel — the Kunpeng Super Range.” The company described the system as its answer to five long-standing issues of traditional range-extender vehicles: short electric range, slow charging, high energy consumption, weak power in low-battery conditions, and high noise from generators.
The Kunpeng Super Range combines a 63.3 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) fast-charging battery with a 60-litre fuel tank. XPeng claims the system achieves a pure-electric range of 452 km (281 mi) and a comprehensive range of 1,602 km (995 mi) under the CLTC cycle. It supports 5C + 800 V ultra-fast charging, reaching 70 percent charge in 12 minutes.

The powertrain integrates a 1.5-litre turbocharged generator that maintains 150 km/h (93 mph) cruising speed even when the battery is depleted. XPeng also introduced an 800 V hybrid silicon-carbide coaxial electric drive unit.
To address noise, the system uses a low-vibration generator with active noise control technology that cuts start-and-stop vibration by 60 percent and limits generator noise to below 0.5 dB.

XPeng reported combined energy consumption of 16.5 kWh per 100 km and fuel use of 6.4 litres per 100 km (WLTC) in battery-depleted mode, with an oil-electric combined consumption equivalent to 2.53 litres per 100 km. The vehicle is compatible with 92-octane fuel.
Engineering updates include a 9-in-1 rear-axle integration system combining the exhaust, fuel tank, rear-wheel steering, third-row storage, air suspension, DCC dampers, electric drive, independent suspension and drive shaft assembly, achieving 95.8 percent space utilisation. XPeng stated this layout preserves a large interior cabin for the seven-seat configuration while maintaining range efficiency.

The X9 features a new exterior colour, Aurora Green, and a Cloud Rose Brown two-tone interior. With its 1,602 km range, XPeng claims the vehicle can travel from Guangzhou to Shanghai on a single charge and tank fill.
The launch represents XPeng’s entry into a new generation of extended-range technology with its Kunpeng architecture, positioning the brand to compete in long-range intelligent vehicle segments.
