On August 6 in Beijing, XPeng (NYSE:XPEV) opened pre-orders for its new-generation P7 electric sedan.

The company reported that more than 10,000 pre-orders were placed within 6 minutes and 37 seconds of launch, marking the fastest pre-order response for any XPeng model to date.

This pre-order pace exceeds that of other recent XPeng launches. The Mona M03 reached 10,000 pre-orders in around 52 minutes, while the G7 SUV reached the same figure in about 46 minutes.

The P7+, launched in November 2024, received 30,000 pre-orders in 108 minutes.

Pre-orders record of any EV maker still belong Xiaomi’s YU7 with over 200,000 pre-orders within three minutes of launch.

The new P7 plays a strategic role in XPeng’s product lineup. When it first launched in 2020, the original P7 became the company’s best-selling model and helped establish XPeng’s brand identity around intelligent driving and sporty performance.

In March 2023, XPeng introduced the P7i as a successor, while continuing to sell the standard P7 for a time.

The P7+ introduced in late 2024 was not a continuation of that lineage, but a new model tailored toward families and spacious interior design.

In contrast, the new-gen P7 aims to revive the performance and smart driving appeal of the original, offering a more avant-garde design.

The new XPeng P7 integrates three in-house Turing AI chips, delivering up to 2,250 trillion operations per second (TOPS) of computing power.

The platform supports advanced perception and decision-making systems, including Vision-Language-Action (VLA) Models.

These systems are designed to respond adaptively to real-time traffic scenarios and draw on XPeng’s existing robotics R&D.

Range options are rated under the CLTC cycle at 702 km (c. 436 miles), 750 km (c. 466 miles), and 820 km (c. 510 miles), depending on the configuration.

Both rear-wheel-drive and dual-motor all-wheel-drive variants are available. The high-performance AWD version accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds and supports 5C ultra-fast charging, providing up to 525 km (c. 326 miles) of range in approximately 10 minutes under optimal conditions.

We expect pricing to be below 300,000 yuan (c. $41,800) considering current P7i and P7+ starting prices of 249,900 yuan and 186,800 yuan, respectively.

A refundable 99 yuan (c. $14) pre-order grants a 3,000 yuan (c. $420) discount at final purchase.

Deliveries are expected to begin later this year, with full specifications and pricing to be confirmed later in August.

The strong pre-order response highlights the importance of the P7 nameplate to XPeng’s broader strategy.

After a period of expanding its model range, the company is now seeking to reassert the P7’s place as a flagship sedan that balances driver-centric performance with advanced digital features.
