Avatr 06T wagon pre-sales open April 8 with Huawei's 896-line LiDAR and 955 hp

Avatr Technology has confirmed that pre-sales for the 06T wagon will begin on April 8, 2026, with a full market launch targeted around China's May Day holiday on May 1.

The 06T is a wagon-bodied extension of the Avatr 06 sedan, which launched in April 2025 starting from 191,900 CNY (c. $27,900). Avatr Technology is a joint venture built on the CHN cooperation model, combining the resources of Changan Automobile (SZSE: 000625), CATL (SZSE: 300750), and Huawei's smart vehicle division. Changan holds approximately 40.99% of Avatr, while CATL holds around 14.1%.

The 06T measures 4,940 mm long, 1,960 mm wide, and 1,475 mm tall on a 2,940 mm wheelbase. Three powertrain configurations are offered: a flagship tri-motor all-wheel-drive BEV combining a 210 kW front motor with dual 251 kW rear motors for 712 kW (955 hp) combined; a dual-motor rear-wheel-drive BEV at 502 kW (683 hp); and an extended-range variant pairing a 370 kW (503 hp) electric motor with a 1.5-litre 115 kW turbocharged generator.

Both BEV variants draw on an 89.33 kWh CATL Shenxing battery on an 800V silicon carbide platform supporting 5C charging, reaching 30–80% state of charge in approximately 12 minutes. CLTC-rated range exceeds 740 km (460 miles) on BEV. The EREV delivers 330 km (205 miles) of electric-only range and more than 1,200 km (746 miles) combined.

The headline technology is the Huawei Qiankun 896-line LiDAR, confirmed on March 12, 2026 by Avatr Technology President Chen Zhuo as the highest-specification LiDAR unit in global mass production. The sensor uses Huawei's dual-optical-path architecture, integrating receivers with different focal lengths to fuse wide-angle and telephoto imaging. Vertical resolution is four times that of the previous generation, pushing perception from point-cloud to what Huawei describes as "image-grade" clarity.

In practice, the unit detects obstacles as low as 14 cm in height from 120 m (394 ft) away. Detection range for low-reflectivity targets — such as fallen tires — has extended by 190% compared to prior hardware, and recognition distance for irregular obstacles like toppled traffic cones improved by 77%. The sensor feeds Huawei's ADS 4.0 system (branded Qiankun 2.0), the latest generation of its intelligent driving platform.

The cockpit runs HarmonyOS 5.0 across a 35.4-inch dashboard-spanning display and a 15.6-inch central screen — the same HarmonySpace 5 architecture introduced across Huawei's 2026 model year vehicles.

Official pricing has not been announced. The 06 sedan's EREV variant starts at 209,900 CNY (c. $30,500) and its BEV at 219,900 CNY (c. $31,900), suggesting the 06T will be positioned above those figures given the additional sensor hardware and powertrain options.

Avatr and Huawei have committed to jointly launching 17 models by 2030, and the 06T is the first model under their Strategic Partnership 2.0 framework.

Whether the wagon format can carve out meaningful volume in a market long dominated by SUVs and crossovers will be one of the more closely watched experiments of China's 2026 model year.

Conversion rate: 1 USD = 6.88 CNY as of April 4, 2026
