Tesla China reportedly has accumulated 100,000 pre-orders of the Model Y Juniper

According to a local report on January 24, a Tesla store salesperson in Guangzhou said that "If you order now, deliveries will start in March, but it may not be immediately available in March as production is scheduled based on order sequence.

Currently, many people are waiting for this car, with over 100,000 pre-orders in China, so the earlier you order, the sooner you get it."

Previous reports suggested that the Model Y launch day pre-orders exceeded 50,000 units.

If accurate, 100,000 pre-orders would be equivalent to more than two months of Model Y deliveries.

In December 2024, Tesla delivered 61,881 units of the old Model Y and just over 480,000 units for the entire year.

Another Tesla salesperson mentioned that the new Model Y display car is expected to arrive in stores in the next two days, but the vehicle is available for display only.

Test drive cars are not yet offered and are expected to be ready in March, pending approval from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).

"The current pre-sale deposit is 1,000 CNY. Early orders can lock in the launch rights, and if customers are not satisfied after viewing and test driving, they can get a refund.

Many people placed orders on the first day without seeing the actual car to secure the first batch production slot."

Tesla China's official website shows that the new Model Y is expected to begin deliveries in March, pending regulatory approval.

Tesla China did not refute pre-order claims, but did say that there is no publicly available data on actual pre-orders.

On January 24, Tesla announced the launch of the new Model Y in the U.S. market, with deliveries expected to begin in March.

The refreshed Model Y was listed on Tesla China's official website on January 10, with a starting price of 263,500 CNY, an increase of 13,600 CNY compared to the old model.

In the Chinese market, the Model Y has long held the top spot in the mid-to-large SUV segment priced around 200,000 CNY.

In December 2024, the Model Y sold approximately 61,900 units, ranking first in China SUV sales.

Since last year, several new models from independent brands have aimed to surpass the Model Y, such as NIO’s Onvo L60, Zeekr 7X, and Huawei’s Luxeed R7.

Huawei's Executive Director and Chairman Yu Chengdong, praised the Model Y at the Luxeed R7 launch event, calling it "a very good product in the pure electric SUV market with excellent sales."

However, he also boldly claimed, "The goal of the Luxeed R7 is to be better than the Model Y and to compete with it with a superior car than the Tesla Model X."

NIO Chairman Li Bin described the competition as "six major factions attacking the Model Y together" in a leaked group chat screenshot.

On the first day of the new Model Y pre-sale in China, Xiaomi Group Chairman and CEO Lei Jun stated on his social platform, "For friends who want to buy an SUV, if you're not in a hurry, you can wait for the Xiaomi YU7."

He later added, "The Xiaomi YU7 is expected to be launched in June-July and is currently undergoing final testing. If you're in a hurry and can't wait for the YU7, the Model Y is also a good choice."

Yu Chengdong also reportedly stated in his WeChat Moments that the Luxeed R7 still maintains a leading edge and looks forward to competing with the Model Y “Juniper”.

He also mentioned that they would carefully study the Model Y to learn from its simplified architecture and cost-reduction innovations and practices.
