Tesla China sells 78,828 cars in 1st full month of Model Y "Juniper" delivery

According to China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) wholesale sales data, Tesla China has delivered 78,828 vehicles during the month of March.

CAAM’s monthly data reflects wholesale figures, meaning cars are counted as "sold" once automakers distribute them to dealers.

Export sales from China to global markets also count as “sold”. Hence, Tesla has sold 78.828 cars, including domestic and export deliveries.

March wholesale figures represent a 156.9% month-on-month improvement from the 30,688 EVs delivered out of Shanghai Giga in February, but a -11.5% year-on year decline.

In fact, Tesla China has underperformed in every month in 2025 compared to the same periods in 2023 and 2024.

As a result, Tesla China as delivered a cumulative total of 172.754 vehicles at the wholesale level as of March 2025, compared to approximately 229,000 in 2023 and 220,000 in 2024.

Amongst NEV automakers, Tesla ranked 3rd in March, behind 119,696 deliveries by Geely and 371,419 deliveries by BYD.

All eyes are on Tesla as March represent its first full month of delivery of the Model Y facelift featuring the “cyber” light bar design.

Tesla has gradually ramped up production and delivery of the SUV, starting deliveries in China on February 26.

Through week 12 of 2025, Tesla had delivered in excess of 10,000 Model Y in a single week.

Tesla has built over 2,000 Supercharger stations across China, covering all provinces and cities, with 450 of those also open to other brands.
