Tesla Model 3 outsold Xiaomi SU7 last week; first time since mid-February

Tesla’s Model 3 surpassed Xiaomi’s SU7 in China’s weekly insurance registrations for Week 33 (August 11–17, 2025), marking the first time since February.

Tesla delivered 5,200 Model 3 versus 3,600 SU7, following Week 32’s 4,100 versus 4,300, respectively. The last week in which Model 3 led was Week 8 (February 17–23), when it recorded 6,600 registrations against SU7’s 6,400.

The uptick coincides with the addition of a new Long Range RWD and upgraded Performance AWD Model 3, which raises the lineup’s headline range to 830 km (c. 516 miles) on the CLTC cycle.

Since late March, Xiaomi’s SU7 has consistently outsold Model 3 most weeks as production ramped. Week 33 breaks that streak amid Tesla’s summer promotions and a fuller Model 3 lineup.

For Xiaomi, strong SU7 demand has been joined by the YU7 SUV’s launch, which has drawn a surge of orders but added pressure on capacity and delivery pacing.

On June 26. Xiaomi received an astonishing 200,000 pre-orders in just 3 minutes after launch, with 120,000 of those locked-in with deposits.

Xiaomi’s current production capacity has likely hit a ceiling with Phase 1 and Phase 2 of its Beijing plant offering 150,000 annual production capacity each, for a total of 300,000 units.

As the company aims to ramp up YU7’s delivery pace, Xiaomi likely will need to compromise its SU7’s production, which would explain the last three week’s tapering delivery numbers for the sedan.

Tesla continues to sell the Model 3 with a single‑motor RWD, Long Range AWD, and Performance AWD, now joined by the Long Range RWD variant.

Tesla China lists CLTC ranges of 634 km (c. 394 miles) for the base RWD (18‑inch wheels), up to 753 km (c. 468 miles) for Long Range AWD, and 647 km (c. 402 miles) for Performance; the new Long Range RWD features Tesla’s longest EV range ever with 830 km (c. 516 miles).

The Model 3 is priced at 235,500 yuan (c. $32,800) for RWD, 285,500 yuan (c. $39,800) for Long Range AWD after July’s price adjustment, and 339,500 yuan (c. $47,300) for Performance; the Long Range RWD is 269,500 yuan (c. $37,500).

Estimated delivery time for the base RWD and Long Range AWD models are listed at about 1–3 weeks while the upgraded Performance AWD and all-new Long Range RWD require 3-5 weeks and until September, respectively, for delivery.

By contrast, Xiaomi’s delivery estimates evidence a healthy order backlog (almost too healthy). SU7 waiting times range by trim from roughly 34–41 weeks: Standard 38–41 weeks, Pro 36–39 weeks, and Max 34–37 weeks.

Meanwhile, the blockbuster YU7 SUV draws even longer waits, with Standard 55–58 weeks, Pro 47–50 weeks, and Max 41–44 weeks.

As the second plant ramps, the delivery gap could marginally narrow, but near‑term output still appears constrained versus demand.
