Tesla Shanghai begins mass production of new Model Y "Juniper" ahead of schedule

On February 18, Tesla's official Weibo announced that the updated Model Y has officially entered mass production at the Shanghai Gigafactory.
Tesla Asia also announced on X today that production of the new Model Y has officially commenced at Gigafactory Shanghai, with deliveries set to begin soon.

This signals that the Model Y facelift will soon arrive at dealerships and begin deliveries.
Just yesterday, China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) released the catalogue of NEV models eligible for purchase tax reductions, which included the Model Y “Juniper”, suggesting that the vehicle has received full regulatory approval for sale in China.

On January 10, Tesla China announced the debut of the updated Model Y, available in two 5-seater Launch Series configurations with starting prices of 263,500 CNY and 303,500 CNY, respectively.
These prices represent an increase of 12,600 to 13,600 CNY compared to the previous version. This is the first major update to the Model Y since its release.

Tesla China updated their website earlier today showing that deliveries of the new Model Y will begin later this month, ahead of the March start previously communicated.
The current Launch Series will only be available for a limited time until February 28.

In January 2025, Tesla delivered 25,694 Model Y in China, a -14.1% decline year-on-year and -58.5% month-on-month.
In 2024, Tesla delivered a total of 480,309 Model Y, compared to 456,394 units the year prior.

According to local media outlet 36Kr, Tesla China forecasts new Model Y to sell 520,000 units in 2025, implying a YoY growth of 8.3%.
