Tesla Shanghai factory to shut down new Model Y "Juniper" production for 3 weeks

According to reports from local media, Tesla plans to suspend production of its recently facelifted Model Y “Juniper” on some production lines in Shanghai for about three weeks during the Chinese Lunar New Year.

This move aims to optimize equipment and better prepare for the increased production of the new Model Y.

The impacted Model Y production lines will be closed from January 22 to February 14. Additionally, the production area for the Model 3 electric sedan at Tesla's Shanghai factory will be shut down from January 26 to February 3.

Tesla's representatives in China have not yet responded to local media requests for comment on the reports.

It is not uncommon for Tesla or any other automaker in China to halt production during the Lunar New Year.

The Lunar New Year is a significant holiday in China, during which many people return to their hometowns to celebrate.

Last week, Tesla launched the new Model Y in China and began accepting orders from China and several other markets, with deliveries expected to start in March.

According to rumors, Tesla China received over 50,000 pre-orders on launch day on January 10, with all Tesla stores recording over 100 orders that day.

Previous reports from a former Tesla China store manager also suggested that the Shanghai Gigafactory increased daily production volume of the Model Y to 2,400 units a day, or as much as 750,000 units per year.

The new Model Y features a refreshed exterior, including a through-type light bar similar to that of the Tesla Cybertruck and Cybercab with minor interior changes.

In China, the new Model Y rear-wheel drive (standard version) and all-wheel drive (long-range) are priced at 263,500 CNY and 303,500 CNY respectively, an increase of 13,600 CNY and 12,600 CNY over the previous model.
