Tesla’s latest Model Y variants sold in China now feature a 16-inch central touchscreen with a 2560 × 1600 resolution, a significant upgrade from the previous 15.4-inch, 1920 × 1200 screen.
The change increases the total pixel count from about 2.3 million to around 4.1 million, delivering much higher pixel density and noticeably sharper visuals, especially when viewing ultra-high-definition content.

The new screen is already available on Tesla’s Model Y+ and Model YL, both launched in 2025. The Model YL made its debut on August 19, 2025, followed by the 821-km range Y+ on November 8, 2025. These two models also lead Tesla’s current China-market Model Y lineup in terms of size and driving range, respectively.
Tesla lists its Model Y prices in China as follows: the standard rear-wheel-drive version is priced at CNY 263,500 (c. $37,000), the long-range rear-wheel-drive Y+ at CNY 288,500 (c. $40,400), the long-range all-wheel-drive at CNY 313,500 (c. $43,900), and the Model YL at CNY 339,000 (c. $47,600).

In addition to the screen, performance figures differ by variant: the base rear-wheel-drive accelerates from 0–100 km/h in 5.9 seconds, the Y+ in 5.6 seconds, the long-range all-wheel-drive in 4.3 seconds, and the Y L in 4.5 seconds.
According to Tesla’s official configuration page, the estimated delivery time can be up to 13 weeks depending on the trim model. Tesla has warned buyers that they should select in-stock units to ensure delivery before December 31, 2025

The screen upgrade reflects Tesla’s broader strategy in China to enhance its in-vehicle experience through hardware improvements, not just driving range. By improving clarity and display quality, Tesla appears to be responding to feedback from existing owners: those who have taken delivery of the Model YL report that the sharper screen is immediately noticeable compared to older 15.4-inch versions.
While only the Y+ and YL currently have the 16-inch 2K screen, the change may set a new standard for future Tesla models. Whether Tesla will extend the upgrade to other Model Y variants or bring it to other markets could further strengthen its competitive positioning as Chinese buyers increasingly demand higher-quality in-car technology.
