On September 19, 2024, ONVO, a sub-brand of NIO, will officially launch its first electric SUV, the L60.

With a starting pre-sale price of 219,900 CNY, the L60 positions itself as a strong competitor to the Tesla Model Y in China, which starts at 249,900 CNY.

Deliveries are set to begin by the end of September, with the company aiming to reach a sales milestone of 20,000 units per month by 2025.

NIO expects delivery volume to reach 20,000 units by year-end and 10,000 ONVO L60 in December alone.

Reaching 20,000 monthly volume would be a significant milestone, equivalent to nearly half of Tesla Model Y monthly sales volume.

Since the beginning of 2023, Model Y has sold on average over 37,000 units. In August 2024, Tesla sold 45,000 Model Y.

Lowest Drag Coefficient for Any Mass-Produced SUV

ONVO L60 Front

The ONVO L60 features a closed front grille and split headlight setup, which differentiates it from other NIO models.

The L60’s adopts a coupe-SUV side profile, with its sloping roofline and hidden door handles.

One of its standout features is its ultra-low drag coefficient of 0.229 Cd, the lowest for any mass-produced SUV, beating Tesla Model Y’s 0.23 Cd.

At the rear, the L60 sports a ducktail spoiler and L-shaped taillights, avoiding the popular full-width light bar seen in NIO, XPeng, and Li Auto vehicles, to create a more distinct look.

Practical and Spacious for Family Trips

The liftback-style rear hatch is designed for practicality, with ample cargo space.

According to ONVO, the L60 can comfortably store five suitcases (two 28-inch, two 24-inch, and one 20-inch), catering to family trips.

Measuring 4,828mm in length, 1,930mm in width, and 1,616mm in height, with a 2,950mm wheelbase, the L60 offers more interior space than its direct competitor, the Tesla Model Y, which measures 4,750/1,921/1,624 mm (L/W/H) with a 2,890mm wheelbase.

Inside, the L60 features a simplistic design with light cream upholstery, giving it an airy, high-end feel.

At the center of the cabin is a 17.2-inch 3K retina display running NIO’s SkyOS, which controls most in-car functions.

A 13-inch heads-up display (HUD) replaces the traditional instrument panel.

The SUV also comes equipped with ambient lighting, child-friendly soft-touch materials, and advanced soundproofing for a serene cabin environment.

The audio system, powered by a 1,000W ONVO SOUND system with 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos, delivers an immersive experience.

Rear passengers enjoy additional luxury with an 8-inch entertainment screen, allowing them to control seat heating, adjust climate settings, and access media.

ONVO Smart Driving

Like Tesla, the ONVO L60 follows a vision-based approach, skipping LiDAR in favor of cameras and radar.

The system is powered by an NVIDIA Orin X chip, offering 254 TOPS of computing power.

The smart driving system called Onvo Smart Driving (OSD) is equipped with 30 advanced sensors, including a 4D millimeter-wave radar and multiple high-definition cameras, capable of L2 autonomous driving functions, such as high-speed and urban smart driving.

The L60 is also equipped with a large language model powered virtual voice assistant named Xiaole.

Energy Efficiency that Outclasses Model Y

Built on a 900V silicon carbide platform, shared with NIO’s ET9, the ONVO L60 promises exceptional performance and efficiency.

The L60 is available in both single-motor rear-wheel-drive (RWD) and dual-motor all-wheel-drive (AWD) configurations.

The RWD model features a 240kW rear motor, while the AWD variant adds a 100kW front motor for a total output of 340kW.

The L60 RWD boasts an impressive energy efficiency of just 12.1kWh/100km, lower than the Tesla Model Y’s 12.5kWh/100km.

Over 1,000 km Range for Long-Distance Travelers

The ONVO L60 offers multiple battery options, including 60 kWh and 90 kWh packs with CLTC ranges of 555km and 730km, depending on the configuration.

For long-distance travelers, the L60 will also come with a version offering over 1,000 km range.

It supports both DC fast charging and AC slow charging, along with battery swapping at 3rd and 4th-generation swap stations.
